Young Roar come back to thump Mariners

Brisbane Roar has come from behind to record an impressive 5-1 win over Central Coast Mariners Youth at Perry Park this afternoon.

After conceding a goal inside two minutes, the Roar re-grouped to put five unanswered goals past Stuart Jacobs’ side in the Round 15 Foxtel National Youth League fixture as new Hyundai A-League signing Andrija Kaluderovic and Luke DeVere both played over an hour in orange.

The match had barely begun when loose defending at the back for Brisbane allowed Jesse Curran a shot on goal, the Mariners attacker scoring from close range.

In the 25th minute, the home side had a chance to equalise when Jack Hingert was fouled inside the area and Devante Clut took responsibility and calmly converted from the penalty spot.

Brisbane was the better team going forward and was soon in front on the scoresheet, Kaluderovic netting from close range in the 33rd minute after sweet build-up play from Hingert and Shelford Dais.

The Serbian striker had two further opportunities in front of goal before he was substituted, one ruled offside and one marginally off-target, before Shannon Brady showed composure to make it 3-1 in the 62nd minute.

Matthew Schmidt played the ball forward to Clut and after he played it through to Brady, the Roar winger rounded Nicolas Sorras in the Central Coast goal to extend his side’s lead.

Substitute Abrahim Yango made his mark in the 75th minute, combining with Dais and hitting a powerful strike past Sorras, before Clut scored his second by capitalising on some unsteady defending and slotting the ball into the empty net.
