Sydney FC have surged four points clear from their National Youth League opponents following a resounding 5-0 victory over Brisbane Roar in their round seven encounter at Seymour Shaw Park on Saturday.

Steve O’Connor’s outfit found the back of the net three times inside the first 35 minutes, registering their fifth win of the campaign.

Fringe Sky Blues first grader Chris Payne was the chief destroyer, netting a hat-trick either side of the break with team top scorer Kerem Bulut and Joel Chianese also adding their names to the scoresheet.

Payne began the rout midway through the first half when he beat the offside trap, drilling his shot past Roar custodian Matthew Acton.

Bulut doubled the advantage moments later, grabbing his seventh goal in as many matches before Payne latched onto an inch-perfect ball from skipper Antony Golec ten minutes before oranges to ensure the three points in a home game at Sutherland.

With the likes of Brendan Gan and Sam Munro orchestrating proceedings in the middle of the park, it was inevitable Payne would take home the match ball.

He did so just after the hour mark from the penalty spot, after he was fouled by Acton when running onto a route one through ball from Golec.

Chianese scored the final goal of the game with fifteen minutes remaining, with O’Connor delighted at the 90 minute display.

“They (Brisbane) had a young side and we wanted to take advantage of that,” he said.
“We wanted to press them early and once we did so, the goals began to flow.”

He was also happy with the blossoming combinations across the park.

“It is obvious at times the boys are still working out how to play with each other,” he said.
“In saying that things are progressing well, the challenge now is to become more cohesive.”
