Brisbane Roar handed Newcastle Jets a heavy 6-3 defeat its Round 5 National Youth League encounter at Adamstown Oval on Sunday.

In hot conditions in Newcastle, both sides played a fast tempo early with a total of five goals being scored in the opening 45 minutes.

Brisbane came out in the second and proved too clinical as they finished the Jets off to win by three goals. While the Jets were always in the contest, two goals in the final 10 minutes for Brisbane handed them a convincing victory.

Brisbane Roar captain Kenneth Dougall gave his side the lead in just the second minute after Ali Abbas had handed over possession on the edge of his own area.

Abbas was then determined to make amends for his earlier mistake making his way through on goal less than a minute later, Roar goalkeeper Matthew Acton did well to thwart his initial attempt but could do nothing about the eventual finish as James Virgilli slotted home the rebound into an empty net.

Brisbane restored their lead on nine minutes with some nice work from Corey Brown on the edge of the area finding Nicholas Fitzgerald unmarked at the back post to tap in for the simplest of finishes.

Abbas blasted a powerful shot over the bar on 14 minutes looking to impact the match, but was forced off the field on 17 minutes applying ice to his troubled knee; replaced by Kale Bradbery.

Bradbery made an immediate impact and found an equaliser as he was played into space behind the defense, keeping his composure to place the ball into the bottom corner past the advancing Acton.

Brisbane Roar finished the half strongly and went ahead for the third time when Rocco Visconte blasted home his finish on 36 minutes.

Bradbery almost eqaulised once again for the home side, but sent his final shot over the bar on 45 minutes as his side went into the break 3-2 down.

The Jets returned from the break looking to get themselves back in the game, and almost scored through David Talevski in the opening minute, Acton again providing a nice save.

However Brisbane extended their lead on 52 minutes through Nathan Fitzgerald with a simple finish inside the penalty area, giving his side a 4-2 lead.

Bradbery got his second of the match just nine minutes later to make it 4-3 as the Jets started to look more convincing on the ball.

Brisbane striker Fitzgerald however was proving a hand full upfront getting into the right positions, completing his hat-trick on 80 minutes to guide Brisbane to a 5-3 lead.

The Roar weren’t finished yet, and Tomislav Cirjak made it 6-3 on 84 minutes to round out a convincing victory.

The Jets will now travel to Adelaide in desperate need of a win, while Brisbane will host Perth Glory.
