Mariners clinch NYL F3 Derby

The Central Coast Mariners Youth have defeated Newcastle Jets Youth 3-1 in Sunday’s Foxtel National Youth League clash at The Central Coast Mariners Centre of Excellence.

Goals to Marko Bosnar, Anthony Kalik and a bizarre own goal conceded by the young Jets, helped the Mariners Youth seal the deal at Tuggerah.

After a quiet opening 20 minute period, it was the away side who drew first blood as Newcastle Youth’s Ryan Ensor found himself on the end of a precision cross and neatly tucked his attempt inside Adam Pearce’s left post in the 24th minute.

In a unique change of events just nine minutes later, a looping back pass from Newcastle’s left stopper, Caio De Godoy held up in the wind and floated over the head of his goalkeeper, Jesse Cook to level the scores at 1-1.

Just before half time the home side had a perfect chance to take the lead through the imposing Travis Major who was illegally brought down in the area.

On the 41st minute Anthony Kalik took a spot kick that was thwarted by an impressive Cook save, sending both sides into the break on even terms.

Six minutes into the second half Kalik took it upon himself to make up for his missed chance from the spot and converted a superb through ball from Major.

By the 80th minute it was all over with substitute Marko Bosnar who headed home from close range after a mix up in the Jets Youth backline finishing the match 3-1 to the Coasties.
