Get to Know You – Rhyan Grant

It’s a lot tougher for country kids to make it to the big time in football

It-s a lot tougher for country kids to make it to the big time in football, but one who is sure to go a long way is Sydney FC defender Rhyan Grant.

The western NSW star made a name for himself during Sydney-s tough 2008/09 season, earning rave reviews for his performances at right back and not looking out of place, despite his tender 17 years of age. Playing in the highly talented Sydney FC Youth squad, Grant-s aggression and ability to join in attacks down the right side were quickly noticed by the first team coaching panel and it was no surprise that he received a call up.

A product of the NSW Institute of Sport and Australian Institute of Sport programs, Grant is well schooled in his football learning and is seen as a leader of the future, especially with the Qantas Young Socceroos heading to the FIFA World Youth Cup later this year in Egypt.

We find out a little more about Rhyan in our feature series called ‘Get to Know You-.
