FOXTEL Y-League 2018 Grand Final to kick-off unique triple-header matchday

Football Federation Australia (FFA) can confirm that the FOXTEL Y-League 2018 Grand Final between Melbourne City FC (Conference A) and Western Sydney Wanderers FC (Conference B) will be played at McDonald Jones Stadium in Newcastle on Saturday, 3 February 2018.

The Grand Final between the defending FOXTEL Y-League Champions Melbourne City FC and Western Sydney Wanderers FC will be broadcast LIVE and EXCLUSIVE on FOX SPORTS 501 from 2.00pm AEDT on Saturday, and will be the first of three massive matches to be played back-to-back-to-back at the Hunter Valley venue.

Following the FOXTEL Y-League 2018 Grand Final, Newcastle Jets will host Melbourne Victory in the Hyundai A-League (5.35pm), before the Jets also tackle Melbourne City FC in the Westfield W-League (8.15pm).

The Hyundai A-League encounter will witness second-placed Newcastle up against the fourth-placed Victory, while the Westfield W-League contest will pit third-placed Newcastle against fourth-placed City.

Head of the Hyundai A-League and Westfield W-League, Greg O’Rourke, congratulated Melbourne City FC and Western Sydney Wanderers FC for reaching the FOXTEL Y-League’s 2018 showpiece, and thanked FOX SPORTS, Newcastle Jets, as well as McDonald Jones Stadium, for helping to accommodate the tremendous triple-header of elite football.

“This Saturday football fans in Newcastle, as well as right around the nation thanks to FOX SPORTS, will be able watch some of Australia’s brightest young footballers compete for a national honour,” said O’Rourke.

“Melbourne City FC topped Conference A by three points ahead of Melbourne Victory and will now have the chance to defend the title they won last year at Central Coast Stadium in Gosford.

“Western Sydney Wanderers FC will be aiming to capture the FOXTEL Y-League crown for the first time in their history after they edged last year’s runners up Sydney FC to a place in this year’s decider.

“Saturday promises will be a stunning day of football in the Hunter Valley with a FOXTEL Y-League Grand Final, as well as key Hyundai A-League and Westfield W-League fixtures to be played consecutively.

“On behalf of FFA I’d like to thank FOX SPORTS, Newcastle Jets CEO Lawrie McKinna and his staff, as well as the management at McDonald Jones Stadium for helping us to schedule such a unique event,” concluded O’Rourke.
