City too good for Roar

Melbourne City FC move to the top of the Foxtel National Youth League ladder after defeating the Brisbane Roar 0-3 on Sunday afternoon.

Young Roar’s unbeaten start to the Foxtel National Youth League season has ended, losing 3-0 to Melbourne City at Goodwin Park today.

After a fairly even start to the contest, Andy Kecojevic opened the scoring on the stroke of half-time before Stefan Mauk and Andrew Mullett added goals in the second half.

Benjamin Garuccio had the first clear chance of the match, shooting just high from a free kick on the edge of the area, before Devante Clut tested Tando Velaphi in the City goal with a shot from range on the 15 minute mark.

The Melbourne club broke the deadlock a minute before the break, Kecojevic netting the rebound after goalkeeper Matt Acton pulled off a makeshift save with his shin.

Early in the second half, Young Roar’s Shelford Dais had a promising shot blocked before he teed up Clut for another effort on goal – the City defence keeping tight to deny the home side any sniff at goal.

Acton was busy at the other end of the pitch, pulling off a great save to deny Matthew Millar before goals from Mauk in the 67th and Mullett in 74th minutes secured the three points for the away side.
